GOODWORK STAFF INOMATA (Ms.) (hereinafter Inomata):

Today, we are honored and pleasured to have a renowned Name Divination Specialist Yuta Uehara Sensei who travels throughout Japan to offer onsite consolations, with us.

Thank you very much for taking time off your busy and precious schedule today to join us.

Yuta Uehara Sensei (hereinafter Uehara Sensei)

The pleasure is all mine and I would like to thank you for this opportunity today.

Inomata:

First of all, may I request you to share with us your background and profile?

Uehara Sensei:

Certainly. My name is Yuta Uehara. I am a Name Divination Specialist (otherwise known as a Name Fortune Teller or an Onomastics Valuer). I am currently in my fourth year of practice. Though I am primarily based in Yoyogi-Uehara, I also travel extensively across the country for onsite consolations.

Inomata:

Thank you very much.

I understand you started out as a salaried worker. What and why inspired you to become a Name Divination Specialist?

Uehara Sensei:

Prior to being a valuator, I worked as a dedicated salaried employee in various sectors such as in the IT and Interior Designer industries. In my 30s, I was able to reach my goal in the fields of being a buyer and product development and felt a sense of accomplishment. However, though this brought financial stability, my mind and thoughts were constantly filled with work. I found it hard to live a “relaxed and enjoyable” life and my health suffered due to years of intense work-related pressure.

In my younger days, I had been striving to gain recognition from those around me. However, as I grew older my values and perspective changed and I began to question myself in regards to my future. Am I pushing myself too hard? Is this truly what I want to do and become as a person? These were the questions I asked myself. This led me into losing my confidence and losing the sight of my “true path”.

I had started to have a sense of being “adrift” from life and it was during this period that I discovered the world of Name Divination. I enrolled in a school to study this practice, obtained certification, and with my mentor’s approval, I began my journey as a Name Divination Specialist.

Inomata:

How many years did you attend school to become a Name Divination Specialist?

Uehara Sensei:

After attending 6 months of school, I spent a further 6 months practicing, studying and making assessments, initially for my friends and acquaintances before officially embarking my career as a Name Divination Specialist.

Inomata:

Could you describe to us your daily activities and initiatives?

Uehara Sensei:

I perform name analysis sessions mainly at GOODWORK’s coworking space. On days without appointments, I dedicate time to creating names, including naming babies and consulting on business names and name changes. Given the local demographics, I receive numerous requests from business owners, entrepreneurs, and those in the entertainment industry seeking auspicious (favorable) business names. On average, I handle about 70 naming projects per year, with peaks reaching up to 100.

Inomata:

Where do your clients typically come from? Advertisements, referrals or word of mouth?

Uehara Sensei:

I rarely do advertisements and most of my clients come from referrals.

Inomata:

As I had imagined, clients really put their trust in you so that is why most of the requests for your consultation comes from referrals. You had mentioned that you also travel for assessments across the country. What kind of clients typically request your services then?

Uehara Sensei:

When I travel on a business trip I make assessments for many people.

A representative introduces me to his/her friends and acquaintances. Once I receive around 10 people through referrals, I then schedule appointments.

Inomata:

It seems like you are able to get many clients because you have successfully assessed the representative clients who are in turn trusted and have good relationships with many individuals if I am correct?

Uehara Sensei:

Yes, this is the case. I also have been able to dine with those representatives and often are able to get referrals from the restaurant owners and staff we visit thus getting more connections.

There was a case for instance in which a restaurant specializing in duck cuisine relocated to Kyoto and I had the honor of being able to make a name for that restaurant during the relocation.

Inomata:

As the process and assessment of naming is such an important and delicate matter, I see that it needs utmost care and dedication when making such a significant decision.

Uehara Sensei:

Yes, it is a very daunting and a pressuring task (LOL). For instance, the naming of a child is something that will last and influence the one’s entire lifetime.

Inomata:

I understand that you start your day by brewing coffee from beans, meaning that you truly have a great love for coffee?

Uehara Sensei:

Yes. that’s right. I grind beans fresh every morning with a grinder and enjoy drinking coffee. My love of coffee means that I will consume as much as 5 to 6 cups per day.

Inomata:

I believe you use our GOODWORK’s Conference Rooms, but you also use our Open (Free) Space facilities if I am correct?

Uehara Sensei:

GOODWORK’s Conference Rooms are ideal for when I have a name analysis session as the rooms are soundproof and also very well maintained and spotless. I occasionally use the Open (Free) Space for “minor” tasks in between my name analysis sessions.

Inomata:

Do you cook your own meals when you return home from work?

Uehara Sensei:

I’ve always loved to eat and also greatly fond of tableware.

Inomata:

So one of your hobbies is to collect tableware?

Uehara Sensei:

Yes, however there are so many artists of tableware that I end up buying too many (LOL).

Inomata:

Could you tell me about your future plans?

Uehara Sensei:

I’ve been fortunate and privileged to receive requests from clients who have come for readings asking to learn about divination techniques. Moving forward, I’m considering opening my very own school in the future. I am also currently exploring other business ventures not related to the art of divination. Once the details are finalized, I’ll be sure to share them with you.

Inomata:

Could you kindly give or share any advice perceptions for anybody out there who are looking to start their own business?

Uehara Sensei:

The key in starting your own business is to “Make a decision” and to “Take action”.

If you want to try something, don’t hesitate and just do it. You’ll learn a lot through the experience.

While I have had many reservations when I started out my own business, as time progresses, I have found out that things will somehow work out in the positive. Also, I have noticed that starting a business today involves lower initial investments and fewer barriers compared to before.

While I was junior high school, my older brother, who was in high school at the time, put up a print in my room without me knowing with a quote from Napoleon Hill: “There is no success without decision. Procrastination and indecision are the breeding grounds of failure.” At that time, I didn’t think deeply about it, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to realize that many of the achievements have been the result of making decisive choices. When it comes to entrepreneurship or going independent, I believe that times when things don’t go well are often due to indecisiveness. I think things tend to work out better when you decide to act decisively rather than procrastinate.

Observing my clients, I have noticed that the successful ones are those that do not hesitate to make quick decisions and proactively complete tasks in a timely manner.

Inomata:

Thank you very much for sharing such inspiring, wonderful and motivating interview!
